Museum Overview
The Dixon Gallery and Gardens is one of Memphis' premier art museums
since 1976. The museum specializes in impressionist and Post-Impressionist
paintings and decorative arts.
Set amid 17 acres of formal and informal gardens, the Dixon is a former
private estate. Its site was acquired by the Dixons in 1939, and landscaped
in the English style with open vistas adjacent to smaller, intimate
formal spaces. The residence opened to the public in 1976.
Exhibits
The museum focuses on French and American impressionism and features
works by Monet, Degas, and Renoir. The collection also includes 18th
and 19th century British portraits and landscapes in keeping with
Hugo Dixon's English heritage.
